Our "flock" is just two bantam hens we've had for almost 5 years. A whte faced black Spanish and an Old English Game. They are free in our backyard during the day, and I lock them into their coop at night. The Spanish is a very dominant hen; she has always acted "roosterish" and our flock was calm because the Old English is extremely docile.
Recently the Old English was missing for one day and one night. She was back the next day (and looked good), and I put them both back into the coop. The Spanish attacked the Old English until her neck was bare and bloody, and one toe was bit and bloody. I separated them for two days, but reintroducing them is not going well. The Spanish attacks the Old English on sight. The Spanish chases her around the yard to jump on her and pull feathers from her neck.
Will I ever be able to get them back together? I keep thinking that at age 5 maybe the Spanish has dementia - she has always acted a little crazy!
Any ideas are welcome! Thank you.
