HEN BREAKING EGSS?

Give her some credit, yes she can tell which ones are good and which ones are bad. I don't know how, but she can tell. My broodies always roll out the bad ones and stay on the good ones. It's their way of not letting the good ones go bad or get bacteria or something. I also had another one eat 2 of her bad ones. It's normal. If she does that to all of them though, you've got a problem.

This is really good info for newbies. I want to thank the experienced people for taking time to post!

My broody kept breaking her fertile eggs also. She never ate any - I think she was just a big CLUTZ. Here's some of the good advice I received when I posted about her:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=185507

Near the end, she had 2 eggs left. She went 4 days without breaking any and then on day 21, I found a broken egg & fully developed dead chick under her (yolk was not quite fully absorbed). With only 1 egg left, I didn't have much faith in her. I took that egg inside and using my portable humidifer, a light bulb, and a meat thermometer, I was able to save my last chick. It was in the house 6 hours before it hatched (all by itself).

Take a look at the above thread and if you aren't able to find any solutions there, I'd put the eggs in an incubator if you have one. She may be klutzy like my hen, but hungrier, and if she's that clutzy you'll lose some more. But.... I'd candle first and make sure that you do actually have some chicks developing.

My second broody, kept under the same conditions as the first just hatched her first clutch yesterday & today - she didn't break any eggs.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR ALL THE GOOD ADDVICE IT IS REALLY APPRECIATED!! I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT HENS WERE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BUT I'M SURE THAT THAT IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY MIRACLES THAT GOD HAS PUT IN THIS WORLD THAT WE JUST OVER LOOK.
