hen breathing with beak open

If you haven't already, please bring her in, with feather buddy if you're concerned she'll be stressed. She needs to be warm, comfy, and in a quiet stress free area, food and water within easy reach.
If she's still open mouth breathing I'm not sure how much on line help there will be because it's an emergency likely requiring hands on diagnosis/help.
But keep posting with updates...and any clues that can help folks help you.

JJ, I did bring her in yesterday afternoon. This AM she is alive, barely. Very weak. Symtoms have not changed. I have no clue what to do at this point.

Sadly, I had to put down my black hen. She was not eating, only drinking what I could get her to take with an eyedropper. This morning she was still breathing with noisy wheezing and gurgling sounds. She really seemed to be having a hard time getting her breath. Her comb was not red, more of a purple color. I hated to do it, but did not want her to suffer.

I am sorry sben. I must admit that I have been contemplating this too.

I still am seeing the wheezing, no eating or drinking. Not really any energy, only enough to to run in her cage when I tryed to feed her.

Any help or ideas still much needed.

Sounds like gapeworm to me. I had the same symptoms with two of my chickens minus the foamy poop. The 1st one died before I figured out what was wrong. I got some horsewormer and put a pea-sized bit of it on their favorite treat. All are fine now.

HOW IS SHE TODAY? I am having the same trouble,I am treating with antibiotic in the water and ivermectin also so far my wheezing sneezing gapping blue beaked little hen is still alive after 2d and is eating and drinkking

Jennh and Kellie,
Thank you so much for the information. She is still wheezzy. She does not eat unless I hand feed her. I will go in the morning and get some wormer. Stores are closed here.

Do I need to treat my whole flock as a precaution?
If I treat the whole flock, how long should I discard eggs?

Thanks, again.
