I have a 4 year old RIR that began making the stretched neck, gaping, congestion, hard to swallow movements several weeks ago. She has been treated once with Tylan 50 (3 days), and this week with Valbazen for worms on 5/9/16 because I found round worms in her poo after feeding her raw buttermilk for a couple days. Her comb is still red and she wants to eat but has a lot of trouble getting anything down. She is going downhill but still has spirit! I hard cook egg yolks and then mash them up in water or buttermilk and she is able to consume some of that. She doesn't want yogurt. I've done quite a bit of research on BYC forums and they have been very helpful. I have her separated and saw no need to medicate other chickens. We have 2 acres of pasture for the birds to free range. We do not use pesticides or other chemicles on the property. They are fed laying mash, fresh water, raw veggie treats and scratch. It is very humid and hot here. We have wet winters and springs. Seems like a hen gets sick particularity after these wet spells. It is impossible to keep them out of water puddles. We have thick clay here that retains water. There are lots of snails too. Coops are cleaned bi-weekly unless they are smelly. If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it.
