Hen cant walk, flaps wings to move.

Does she stand at all? Can you check to see if she might be eggbound by inserting a clean finger inside her vent an inch or two? Is she pooping? Will she eat some watery chicken feed in a bowl and some bits of scrambled egg?
I stuck a finger in earlier. Gloved I promise lol no egg. Not that I could feel. She defecated when i did that. She ate some layer pellets and scratch first thing this morning. She does not walk at all she half assed flies. Her feet and legs were the first thing that I looked at this morning. There’s a few poops in her crate, (she’s been quarantined) but not would I assume is nearly enough. The chunks of petrified nuggets stuck to her butt bother me some.

Oh! She doesn’t want her back end touched. Like her lumbar region. There are no open wounds, and this morning when my husband let them out she was laying in the floor already. Everyone went to bed like normal last night. So if it’s an injury it occurred during the night. I just have a hard time believing that it is. I went all up and down her spine. She seems fine other than that though. She’s just freaked out by not being able to walk I guess. I would be too.

Her crop feels normal, her breath is fine. What a conundrum. I’m pretty worried about her as there is no way I can just say “it’s okay if she’s lame, she’s happy” because the rooster will give her so much hell.

She just briefly stood up. It does seem as if she was favoring one leg but she didn’t stand long enough for me to be certain. She’s not happy in the crate. She’s wanting out badly. Should I let her go? I’m afraid the rooster won’t leave her alone though.

So sorry. I would try to get her bottom cleaned off or trim some feathers. A chicken sling might be helpful. If you think at some point that she may be suffering or she stops eating, it might be good to consider putting her down. Then a necropsy might tell you whether or not she has Mareks or lameness due to another illness. I live outside of Huntington in OH. But WV state vet will not perform a necropsy. If you have a local vet who could get some blood serum from her, you can contact this lab in TX where they can do a pcr test for Mareks on serum, and swabs on the vent and throat:

less than a year old
She’s sitting on her hocks, kind of leaned to one side. One wing away from her body
A tad runny, a little green tinted and looks like tiny lumps in it
Holding her on my lap trying to keep roo away
She is not listless. She’s very alert and very scared
I’m not sure what’s dried to her bum but I’m gonna assume it’s runny poo

You mention rooster and express worry several times in your thread.
Is he a rough rooster?
Exactly how old is this hen and the rooster?
Her back is tender?

I would clean up her poopy rear - soaking works well. If you don't want to get her wet, then for that large poop ball get a pair of pliers and carefully crush it up - that thing will crumble up and make it easier to remove. Yep, it would be good to wear a mask when doing this!

If the rooster harming her is a concern, then I would not put her back in the general population, even if she's able to stand now. If needed, move that crate to the run so she's near the others. Provide her with food/water and let her stay protected from the rooster.

Photos of the rooster gives you bonus points :)

I missed this post. I would try her in a dog crate for visits with the flock. That might perk her up. You do want to keep her separated from the others and the rooster, especially, since they might try to harm her because she is lame.

I’m guessing this is the reason I didn’t feel an egg. There is no shell to it. Just membrane. No pieces anywhere. Also this poop is rancid. She still doesn’t want to be bothered. Not sure if she has another one in there or what. I know one day my husband told me that one of the hens had to have laid two eggs. I’ve seen double yolk eggs before but didn’t know it was possible to lay two eggs. I’m really hoping all of the egg came out. She’s still not standing and flapping to move. Is there some kind of douche (maybe rinse was a better term 😂) that j can use to clean her out?

ps. Meet Lucifer. He lives up to his name
