Sorry - and a scrape on her side. I wonder if she went lame and was then taken advantage of by a rooster while she couldn't walk before we saw her.

I just read through the thread because I have a Dominique hen doing the same thing. We've brought her inside and she's alert and eating and drinking well. Her two symptoms are not walking (but she can move the legs) and unformed, terrible smelling waste. She has a cut on her head aND a scrape

Thanks for the input. She just seems so perky and normal other than not being able to walk! We'll see... at the moment she's inside the house eating scrambled eggs and listening to some Christmas music with us.
I wanted to provide a happy update on our chicken! We're now over 2 weeks out and she has improved very much. She has regained use of her legs and can walk by herself again, even if she's a bit wobbly. She started standing about 4 or 5 days ago and has progressed from there. Unfortunately, we've realized we have a hawk problem - we saw 2 of our little ones get eaten today. The bright side of that, though, is that we're pretty sure our girl was never sick but was wounded from a hawk encounter. I think there was internal damage to her leg from a hawk attack and she's healing from that.
