One of my Braham hens has started to get up on the perch in their run and start clucking every night as the other hens all go inside, she does this for at least 10 minuets and i don't understand why,

has anyone else got or had a hen that does this and is there any reason behind it ?

Thanks in advance

Mine are crazy when it starts getting towards bedtime. They are in and out of coop stood on feeders clucking away and generally a bit daft. I think and this is just my thoughts that they are all making sure everyone is there present and correct before heading in. Like a call to make sure everyone knows it's bedtime and time to go in. Just my thoughts but I'm sure others will be along with other thoughts on this.

Thanks, I was thinking it could be a bed time call to the rest, lets go with that as it really good :)

I will have to check which hen it is as if its the dominate hen then it could be her keeping them in check

My flock leader hen will round everybody up in the run and get them into the coop every night. She is very protective and even as a chick would sit on her little roost bar in the brooder and scream for everybody to get to bed and pronto!!

So it is very possible she is just being protective of her flock. :)
