Wasn't sure how to make the title have detail without being crazy long.
My hen may be going through her molt but I've never seen this before. She has developed 2 bald spot in either side of her comb and her comb has gone very pale. She is acting healthy in every other sense but I wanted to holler at y'all and get some opinions on the matter.
Any help is appreciated!

Because of pale comb, I’m thinking it is molting. Do you have a rooster? Roosters when they mate hold onto the back of a hens head and sometimes they pull out feathers. Could be mating related and rooster related.

I do have a rooster. He's molting heavily right now. She doesn't look nearly as shabby as him, which is why I posted. I've never seen a chicken lose feathers on top of their head before. I'll have to find something to get them over this. I got additional hens coming in a week. I don't want her weak and stressed from molting then add to it with new roomies. Any quickish remedies?

I had a hen that basically ended up looking like Yule Brenner was fine other then that and lived for years.

My hen is doing this, too. Most of the eight hens I have are three+ years old, but I've never seen them molt, besides seeing a few feathers here and there. This season they're all molting like crazy and one of the RIRs is almost bald and has lost all the feathers on top of her wings. Hope all of your hen's feathers grow back!

My molting girl has a paled comb, too. I think it's normal. I agree with a protein boost to get them through the molt. I serve my scrambled eggs to them on a plate. If you ever make any of those microwavable frozen dishes, the black plastic container is great for serving the chickens a treat.
