Hen died and found underdeveloped egg? beside her

That beats anything I've ever seen and I've seen some pretty weird things in 11 years of having chickens. Wow! Do you still have it?? If so, do you have a diagnostic lab close by? Maybe they could give you some idea what it is. I'd really like to know.

So sorry for your loss.

Yeah, there was one a while back that looked very similar, it completely turned me off of egg rolls for life! You could try searching for that thread....Okay, found it--why did I have to look at that again!

Thanks for all the info everybody (and for the condolences). My daughter was quite upset when she found her hen (they are mainly her birds, she takes care of them and then sells the eggs). I've been doing as much research and reading as possible with all the info you all have given me. The site I found the most interesting, and close to what I encountered, is http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/WeirdEggs_PeterBrown/WeirdEggs_PeterBrown.html (check out all the links they give, lots of weird look'n eggs on there), got the link from the thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=281517&p=2 that Chookchick said to look at (sorry you had to see that again just to help us). Sorry Old Rebel, I don't have the egg thing anymore, but did send the pics to a vet I know, don't know if she deals with chickens or not, have never asked her, but we'll see what she thinks. I have a few other vets I use (we have horses, goats, cats, dogs, chickens) so I'll see if I can get their emails and see if they have ever seen anything like it before.
