Yesterday I went out to feed my chicken and found one hen with a large lump under her neck. Looks like her gizzard was swollen. This morning when I went to check on her she was dead. Does anyone know what would cause that? I saw part of a stara-form plate in the coop, could she have gotten sick from eating that? The other 5 hens seems fine. I feed them laying pellets.

Thanks,
Rosann

So sorry to hear of your loss. I hope fond memories bring some comfort. I agree that it could have been the styrofoam or she could have had sour or impacted crop:

I'm sorry for your loss. :( :hugs
The ingestion of Styrofoam has been a huge issue for me personally for years, and that seems to be the likely culprit of the impacted crop in your hen. Foreign material like that just isn't meant to be ingested....yet, they turn around and eat it anyway. -_-
Just know that you aren't alone with your issues here. ;) :hugs
