I have a RIR that is around a year old or so. I bought her last August. Her comb was already red so I’m not exactly sure how old.
At first she would drop her eggs on the roost but the shells were always soft. If she happened to lay in the nesting box I could maybe collect her eggs if I was very careful picking them up, the shells were incredibly thin. In total I would guess she has laid around 20-30 eggs since I got her. She hasn’t given me any for months and months now. She goes in the nesting box almost every day but no eggs. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Has her comb grown noticeably after you got her, indicating she was a laying pullet rather than an old hen? Do you have calcium available for her?

IMO she is a defective layer and if she’s had the problem from the beginning of her laying career and she still hasn’t come around after a few months then she will likely never be a normal layer. How attached are you to this bird? I would personally butcher it and see if there are any abnormalities internally.
