I have a bantam silkie x cochin who is suddenly not feeling good at all. When my kids went to let the flock out to forage, she was very slow coming to the door and then almost fell over when she came down the steps. She just stood there, kind of wobbling. She's alert and I don't see any signs of illness. We've separated her. She's the top hen in the pecking order, but seems thin to me, now that I feel her keel. She ate most of a little portion of mush that I mixed up for her. They're eating organic whole grain feed - grower mixed with layer (I have a lot of broodies regrowing feathers) and they have free access to calcium carbonate and grit. They've been on this feed for almost a year. Sometimes I ferment it, but have not lately. She was broody recently and we broke her with a stay in the indoor broody jail. She just pooped a very watery poop. Pic of poop has other things that are not related. There's Cayenne pepper and compost under and next to the poop. The black and red are not hers.

I don't think so. It's really hard to tell from the pic, but the streaks of whitish stuff is the normal chicken poop stuff and all the other oddments are junk that was on the concrete where she pooped. Just watery with whitish streaks...

i had a chicken with the same thing, and he a parasite so maybe it is a parasite. i do suggest taking him to the vet.

I will take that into consideration for sure. There's no way I can afford to take her to the vet unfortunately. This came on suddenly this afternoon though - I am wondering if she may have eaten something moldy or bad. I have just given her some activated charcoal incase...

Could the weakness be a result of a nutritional deficiency perhaps? Would it be worth it to give her Vit B complex? Multivitamins? Electrolytes?

How is her crop feeling, and is it empty by the next morning? Has she started laying eggs again since her broody spell, and was she laying normally before? Can you try offering some scrambled egg and a little wet feed? Is she drinking water?

Hi, she's improving, but has gone broody again. She has laid one egg. Hard to tell how well she is when she is determined to sit on the nest. She's eating the mash I'm making her. I've been adding a bit of B complex to her feed, as well as colloidal silver in case she has some underlying infection or inflammation. She's not so hunched up and seems more alert... Really don't know what's going on. She's passing less watery faeces and is drinking fine. Her appetite has picked up. I also gave her a poultry vitamin mix yesterday. Not sure how often to give it...
