I have a 8.5 month old barnevelder hen. When I let her out this am she went right for the water bowl and drank tons of water. I could hear a gurgle coming from her loudly like I get whe I drink too much water to fast. she would walk away, bend over to peck at food and water would dribble out. then she would eat the dribble on the food, go back to the water and do it all again. She is not lethargic or anthing. these are her only symptoms. anyone seen similar?

She just drank too much because she was thirsty. You should move their water into their coop or put another one in there. It's totally normal, but they can aspirate doing that.

I agree w/Moody; I saw this happen once (and heard the gurgling you describe) when I put someone in charge of my chooks that I apparently should not have; when I arrived back home 48 hrs. later, their waterers were bone dry. As soon as I filled them, what you describe is what I saw.

You may also see very runny/watery poop as well.

MY BO is a total glutton with the water. She's just come into lay for the first time, and her water consumption has gone off the scale!

She practucally dunks her head underwater, glugs down a crazy amount of it, her throat makes that gurgly noise, and then when she next bends down to peck at something a little water comes back out. (And both she and our bluebelle have quite watery poop at the moment - the weather's been getting a bit hotter here in the Midlands (UK) and I assumed they were both just drinking more to cool down.)

Gross on both counts, but I hadn't really been too worried about it. It seems pretty normal to me.

I found this post SUPER helpful as my chicks ran out of water today and I wasn’t home to fill. I found them jumping eachother for water and then water vomitting after along with some severe water explosion poop 💩 💥
