Hen eats raw eggs

Makes no difference how the problem started an accidental break, a curious hen. Egg eating becomes a problem when your chickens see the eggs as food. Chickens will readily eat hot, sauce mustard and most anything else. I believe that most of these home remedies are just old wives tales. As I see it you have two choices you can cull the offending birds or invest in a roll out nest. A roll out nest puts the eggs out of the chickens reach.

Thanks for the advice. When I got home today there were 4 in tact eggs so I guess I was lucky today! I went to a local feed store that suggested putting rooster booster on the eggs. They said they had heard a lot of positive feedback on that so I am going to give it a try if they continue to eat the eggs. I don't want to get rid of the hens or to cull them as suggested. I just got last 3 of them last August when they were 3 week old chicks and they are really good layers. If the rooster booster doesn't work I will invest in the roll out nest boxes before I get rid of the hens!

i dont understand the rooster booster, if you see the egg and they havent ate it, wouldnt you just take the egg before they have a chance? plus you dont want the extra vitamins soaking in the egg shell. i have egg eaters too but i guess i really dont care, i feed them to the cats anyway. my chickens like the rooster booster. they dont hesitate to drink it in their water. just hate to see you waste money on something the store probably has an excess of and is trying to push it. if anything give it to them in their water and it may make their shells a bit harder so they cant crack them.

The rooster booster is to put it in the eggs because it's supposed to taste nasty! When I got home from work today they hadn't eaten any eggs that I could see! I have 5 hens that lay and I get 3 to 5 eggs a day! I had 4 eggs today and no evidence that they had cracked or eaten a 5th egg. I may have wasted money on the rooster booster.

not a waste as far as its good for them, as long as they dont eat too much. i give it to my hens when they are off their feed.

So far so good! They haven't eaten any more eggs! They lay in the morning and I didn't get home till after. 4:00 pm yesterday. They hadn't damaged any of the eggs! Today I got 5 eggs also!

i have one polish that always starts it by breaking the eggs then others join in to help eat them. i rather have the polish then the eggs. hahahha
