Hen Eggbound day 5,6, 7,8....now day 10!!! Any thoughts? <<UPDATE>>

wow, she's amazing! once I had an eggbound hen. I did EXACTLY what you're doing, and it actually took a week before the egg had been laid! i figured she would have died, but she made it through, with lots of love, care, and time.

chickens are sure fighters, just hang in there.

Oh Cammie.. Thank you so much for your comment!
I was really trying to get confirmation from someone that I'm doing the right thing and that there is hope.
I understand that even if she hangs in there, we sill may lose her. But at least my kids know I've done everything I can... actually, we've done everything we can. They've been helping me through this all.

1livelychick.. I meant to answer you, she is actually a Golden Comet. (Hybrid between a White Rock female and a New Hampshire male.)

I have some ISA Browns....they are known for their egg bound issues...those hybrids...gotta love them for their sweet personalities. THey certainly lay the eggs but my experience has been that they have shorter life spans. I just went out tonight and found one with a swollen bum. So she is with a buddy and hopefully her situation will turn around.
I'm glad your girl is in great hands! Keep up the wonderful job. I hope she pulls through! Sounds like she has a fighting chance!

DAY 7!!
I'm not sure how she's doing it, but she actually seems to act and eat better now than she did on day 2.
She has been seperated from the rest, but still in the coop, and we've been giving long, warm soaks daily.
Yesterday she was very sensitive around the bumm, so I opted to just goop her up on the outside, and skip the probing.
The egg is still whole and still in there. I feels like it's floating around in her abdomen.
She has been eating and drinking very well.
I was very worried about what I would find when I got home today. Temperature is at 100F, and the breeze feels warmer than the still air.
I let the rest of the hens out of the run and into the yard. They're quite warm with wings out, but doing okay.
When I opened her cage, she immediately came to the front and hopped out. When she saw her sisters she ran over to the fence to them, so we put her in with them.
So far, she has taken a dust bath and scratched around with the rest. If she didn't have her tail down, you may not know she's eggbound.

I know she will not get better if she doesn't get the egg out, but I'm still tickled that she is doing so well.
Just goes to show you, never give up.

I'm gonna change this hens name to the Engergizer Chicken!
Yesterday and today she sratched around as if nothing was out of the ordinary. I'm still seperating her at night because the dominant hens are determined to pick on her. But, during the day she is now strong enough to run away. And she no longer has loss of appetite.
BUT... still no egg!
Unless there is some other organ that I'm not aware of that feels exactly like an egg, I am 100% sure she has one in her.

Soaks don't seem to be doing anything, and she's getting quite tired of me "poking" around.
Tomorrow will be same routine.. keep her seperate while they are in the coop and run, and another soak when I get home.

We did move the coop today... Who knows, maybe the change of scenery will work better with the chicken feng shui.
