Hi everyone
My Wyandotte finished going broody two days ago and I’ve noticed she is quite frequently sitting throughout the day. I assume it’s because she’s still fatigued from the 4 weeks on the best but just worried it could be something more sinister. She was worked just prior to going broody. Is this common behaviour?
Thanks!

My broody set for 6 weeks straight the first time. She was a vacuum. Literally hunting pecking and scratching for anything she could get her beak on.
Check her crop. Maybe give her some nutri drench along with plenty of high protein crumble.
Keep an eye on her

Did you actually break her or just wait until she gave up?
Was she eating and drinking while she was broody?

She is likely depleted from brooding and likely loosing weight. Additionally, if you are in the northern hemisphere she may be going into molt. She will be increasing energy intake and trying to reduce energy expenditure as she builds back up and begins feather turnover. Otherwise she may be in poor health as being broody is hard on the hen. Picture of her resting?

She finished naturally, she had food and water the whole time and she is still eating and drinking.

We live in Australia and she moulded a few weeks before hopping on the nest. I’ll get a pic next time I see it. Her comb is fairly bright and crop feels fairly full. But she is very light from weight loss.

Odd she would molt in your spring...
...and that her comb is bright red if molting then broody, is she laying again.
Did you use supplemental lighting over the winter?

Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
