Hen getting bullied

I have 12 chickens in a 12x12 run and 4x12 coop. They free range for 4-7 hours everyday. A month or so ago, one of our two Barred Rocks died. We don't know why. Right before that, the other Barred Rock started to really bully one of the other chickens. The Barred Rocks were always a little on the bully side. Maybe the other chicken was sick, so the remaining Barred Rock went a little overboard? Slowly 3 other hens joined in the bullying, I think only when her head was already bloody. I haven't seen her head bloody other than that one time. The chicken that is being bullied has always been one of the shy chickens in the flock. I wanted to pull out one or two of the worst bullies and wondered if I have to separate them where they can't been seen. I was going to just put them in separate crates in the run, but then of course they could see and be seen by the rest of the flock. Will this work if they can still see each other? How do people come up with an alternate predator safe place to put a chicken? Thanks for any help?

I'm not sure how the removal of the bully works and you've got a good point. I would imagine they have to be isolated somewhere that they can't see the other chickens. As an alternative could you invest in the pinless peepers for the offenders?

I thought about the pinless peepers, but read a few stories of things happening to the nostrils of the chickens who wore them - nostrils got enlarged, swollen tissue in that area, skin growing over the pins, etc. So, I was hesitant to go that route. But, when I looked into isolating the bully, I didn't realize they had to be out of sight. I can't figure out how to do that.

I have 6 Golden comets and one is being brutalized by the others. Just today I took one who seemed to be the ringleader and put her in a kennel inside the run. She has her own food and water. I’m hoping that a few days away from the victim hen might change the politics of the coop.
TO ANYONE. How long does a time out take in general? A couple days or a week?
