My barred rock has been slowly losing feathers on her head. When it first started, I thought it was just part of the comb, but now it's obviously not. The speckled Sussex also has thinning feathers on her head.

I first noticed this maybe in February, that's when I thought it was part of the comb. Today is the first I noticed her skin looking bad -- kind of dry and cracking.

They turned 1 year mid-April.

I can't find any parasites or eggs or droppings. I looked around the head and under the wings and around the vent. I do know they can be hard to see.

They are acting normal and laying great.

I have never seen them pecking each other. The barred rock is the biggest one, and I would have pegged her as one of the leaders.

I think it's too early for molting.

We don't have a rooster.

I don't see any feather loss in the other 3 hens.

Any ideas? Thanks.
