In the Brooder
i have been having a lot of trouble with rats for a few months. trapping them and rat proofing barely made a difference (they apparently made a nest in a bunch of places in the run and under the coop)
so for the past week i have been laying down glue around 10pm and picking it up at 3-4am while also securing the hens in the coop.
today one of the hens decided to go nocturnal and managed to get out and stuck in the glue
whole of one side was stuck
luckily i was still up and heard the noise and found her within 5min
by some miracle the head and vent was spared
what i did for now:
removed her from the trap
cut most of the feathers that had glue
use oil to remove what i could
how she is now:
cannot walk straight (no idea if glue is still present or because i cut most of 1 wing)
confined to hospital part of the coop (6sq feet)
sleeping
questions i have:
do i need to give her a soap bath to remove the oil?
how long till the feathers grow back
is benzene poisonous to chicken (i know for sure that the glue i used can be dissolved in benzene but scared to try)
ill post a pic in the morning
