Hello everybody,
My name is Joshua and this is my first post. I have a very urgent issue. One of my hens has been having a rough couple months. Firstly, she seemed to have molted but the process felt like it took a bit longer than normal and only some wing feathers and some on the back of her neck were molted. She also seemed to almost have a dingy, yellowish or brown color for about the past 6 months. About 2 weeks ago i noticed she was a nice clean white again but her comb slowly started getting more and more pale by the day. It got to a very pale red to a light pinkish color and that mixed with her new white feathers and she almost looked like a ghost chicken. Having given some of the backstory leading up to the issue in case it was relevant, I'll get on to the problem. When i locked the flock up in the coop for the night, she was acting normal, just seemed a little paler than she should be but otherwise she was fine. This morning i go out to open the coop and when i open it and they all run out, i noticed she was having trouble balancing. Its not a problem every step but every 4 or 5 steps she would stumble, almost like she was wearing ice skates. She's still eating. Although when she bends down to eat, she will fall over, catching herself with her wing. Her tail is still aimed upward, unlike other times I've had a chicken that wasnt feeling well and the tail has been down. Although after she made her way up the back porch steps, which she had trouble doing, she stood facing the door with her tail down. I brought her inside where it was a little warmer than the 38° it is outside. She stands fine, only very occasionally having issues while standing still. I checked her legs and i dont think her legs are injured, otherwise she wouldn't stay standing on both legs like normal would she? Another thing, her comb is a darker red again although it still doesnt look like her normal comb. But its a dark red and it seems like the space between her comb and beak is red as well. I dont know what the problem might be. I'll attach some pics and try to attach a video to better show the issue. My birthday is tomorrow and I'm going out of town this friday for a couple weeks, during which my mom will be looking after the birds. I'm very attached to my flock and am beyond worried about leaving them and now one isn't well. She seems alert and almost her normal self other than the issue with her balance which manifested within a 12 hour timespan while she was in coop for the night. Any info is greatly appreciated. I have no idea what to do.

Age can be relevant to a disorder so how old is the hen?

She is weak, although the cause is unknown. Give her some warm sugar water with some electrolytes in it. Or warm up some Gatroaid and give that to her to drink. Try that.

The very pale comb is not encouraging for a simple diagnosis. It signifies anemia or shutdown of hormones. This is what we see in cases where tumors have invaded organs.

What does her poop look like? Is her crop emptying as it should? How full is it? You need to check it in the morning before she eats to be sure it's emptying normally.

This could also be a symptom of hypothermia. Put her inside with a heating pad or heat lamp and warm her up. But monitor her poop and let us know what it looks like. Post a pic of it.

Welcome to BYC Joshua and happy birthday.
In addition to what @azygous stated, inspect your hen for lice and mites especially around her vent area where it's warm and moist. Mites are black or red in color and suck blood causing anemia which eventually causes death.
Lice are white/off white or straw in color. They are more of an irritant to chickens but left unchecked they can eventually wear a chicken down due to constant scratching and feather loss.

I was had a bantam rooster have balance issues like that. It was the food. I got some food from TS, it was even organic, but apparently bad. None of my hens showed issues, but I guess he being older and a bantam it showed up in him first. I tried several times switching food, he'd walk normal, then I switched back and he'd get off balance again. I ended up giving the food to a friend who wanted it. A few weeks later, 3 off her older hens all died within 48 ours of each other. The comb thing just sounds like moalting to me.
