Hi. I searched to see if anyone else has had this problem. One of my Black Australorps has a big swollen blister-like thing on her face. I popped and drained it once, but it is back. Does anyone know what might cause this? I will see if I can get a picture.

I did not see the picture above until now, but it looks like facial swelling that might be associated with sinus infection from a respiratory disease, such as MG or coryza. But sometimes they can get a peck or injury to the face that may abscess. Can you post a picture of what yours looks like? Raised bumps or scabs on the face, comb, or wattles can be signs of fowl pox if mosquitoes are present.

Here are a few photos of Patchouli. First photo is early Dec and the others are from earlier today. We cleaned the blister, popped it with a sterile needle, cleaned again then covered with bag balm. Only clear, watery fluid drained out. She was rewarded with frozen mulberries picked from our tree earlier this summer. We'll be sure to monitor her and provide updates per request.

I've searched everywhere and am so thankful for this post. Our chicken has this same issue right now. One large blister on her face. She does not have any other symptoms, no coughing/sneezing/raspy breathing so it does not appear to be MG or coryza. Another girl had one of these about 3 months ago. That one was quite a bit older and died last week, we thought from the extreme heat. Another hen who appeared quite healthy died also, we thought from the extreme heat. However, they do occasionally have the squirts (diarrhea). Should we find a vet? Is there a general antibiotic we should consider? Any ideas would be appreciated.
