Hen has injuries from the rooster...what to do?

There aren't any eggs in the egg box. We were just sitting here talking about what to do. She now hasn't been out of the egg box all day. She did eat some of what I put on her little plate but she's still in there, which means she hasn't had water either, except for what she might have gotten from the stuff on the plate.

I'm really getting worried.

That's what I was thinking... She's gone broody!

THank you ~ thank you everyone! She IS broody! That explains why she growled at me when I stroked her.

I took her out of the egg box and set her in the snow. She stood there for about 90 seconds, took a step, poo'd and then went to eating the plate of stuff I set by the coop/run. After she walked around for a while, I opened the door to the run and she quietly went in and joined the others who wanted to step out to get some of the goodies but don't like snow!

She is still in the run...eating, drinking and making out with Carlos, who after having been man-handled for his pedicure, seems to be in a quieter mood also. She never indicated that she was going back into the coop but I'll make sure to check if she on the roost tonight.

I didn't know a 10-month-old chicken would go broody....silly me. Bet it'll be a loooong time before I'm a confident mother hen!

Oh yes 10 months, some breeds are more broody than others as you know, and some individuals are more broody than the general population of the breed. I have a silkie who is 8 months and refuses to get off the usual egg laying spot *sigh* I get pecked every morning for taking her thrifted eggs. XD
