Hi. I have one hen out of five with a sore red bottom and some feather loss. Soaking in epsom salt bath helps it, but then I've been applying Monistat cream for the last four days, which I noticed seems to make it red again. I don't see any mites or lice, and none of the other hens display these signs. All hens seem healthy otherwise, well... besides the two I have had isolated for the past few days due to coccidiosis--I don't think the red bottom hen has coccidiosis, as she looks and acts healthy and has fairly normal poop, not like the other two. What else causes red bottom that i can explore remedies/treatment?

Can you post some pictures of the hen in question, so we can see?
How old is she? Are all of them the same age?
Generally, you don't isolate for coccidiosis, they are all exposed. Usually you just treat the entire flock that is kept together.
Hi. I isolated the two because they did not respond much to treatment with Corid. I’m treating the two with a different med now while the others are now on to the preventative dose/course of Corid.

Are the feathers wet, or have ointment on them? Not in focus enough to tell much, but I don't see anything obvious. It may be red just because of exposure to sunlight. I can't really tell. Is there any sign of irritation or inflammation, or just the color?
What symptoms were you seeing in the other birds? Again, how old are they?

Such as? We'd need to know what you are giving them in order to try figure this out as it sure is puzzling!

I personally would try some Desitine diaper rash cream on that, but it's obviously got a cause. Do you have any Permethrin powder? I'd dust them all and the coop just as another precaution.

Yes, the feathers are wet there, but even before they were wet they kinda looked that way. Yes, there are signs of inflammation. The two breast bumps that sit below the vent area are quite red/inflamed, and a spot to the left of the vent's opening it also very red/inflamed. All around these particular spots is slightly red/pink.

The hen is about 18 months old, in guessing. I only got the flock of five about three months ago. Previous owner bought three as chicks a year ago from Spring and said the other two were changed hands to that owner maybe two years ago.

This hen with the red bottom acts normal from what I can tell. She's lively, not lethargic at all. The same goes for the other two hens that are kept with her currently. They act and look normal--no red bums.

The red bottom looks better after an epsom salt soak, but after I apply the Monistat cream it looks more red again. So, I don't know if the cream is making it worse, or the grease from the cream only highlights the redness, making it appear worse. Either way, I don't think the Monistat is helping it. --Epsom salt- Yes, Monistat- No.

The two I have isolated are now being treated with Endocox, but that doesn't apply to the red bottomed hen. This hen is currently on the preventative course of Corid.
