My Hen Matty has gone broody to the point she is very protective of the nest.. got some hard pecks a few times just for putting food water in front of the nest box. I am use to that. as I have has 2 hens an one duck long time ago hatch out eggs... I candled some last night and there is one def fertile the others look to be but are behind. The help I need is lots of people are telling me to pull her and the nest an put her in a cage or another coop till chicks hatch and grow some.. BUT farmers here that have them in coops/free range let them be the other hens/roosters don't bother them. They will pen off female ducks from the pool as babies can drown accidently or from an aggressive larger duck. She is sitting on both chicken and duck.... I did pen off my one female duck for a good month then all was ok... but things have got me worried now like and old mother hen lol.
NOW I am worried will they kill the babies? I Know you don't take new babies and just throw in your flock they can kill them... but born into a flock they usually don't. when I do the babies outside after they get good feathers in and warm enough I place them with a laid back or semi broody hen... to teach them the ropes I know wont hurt them and protect them as she after while treats them like her babies.
SO do I take her and put her in a large cage in the coop (as I have no other coop) or will all be ok? my head says ok to chicks but not ducks... my gut tells me to try and get her in a cage where all babies are safe for a few weeks after hatching. SO what would yall recommend?

I left my broody where she was .... in the coop with all the others . She protected her baby. The only problem I ever had were the other girls squeezing in with her to lay their eggs so I made sure to mark the ones that were to hatch .

She is protective already lol. I had a friend suggest to take one of my large bunny cages they all large square ones put the door end over the nest so when they hatch all is safe and leave her with them for a week or 2 then put her and babies out beside the coop in a little run. they use to do that more for their ducks because they did go to the pool with mom an some drown not by mom but other ducks hoarding in. at least till the ducks get up good OR remove the ducks all together let mom raise the chicks. either way I am prepared for anything. OR should say am preparing. as some are very advanced formed looking like in the picture others just starting. lol when I had them hatch out long ago they hid the nest on me lol and brought them out after hatching lol. 2 of our roosters thought have been bringing her grass and little flowers lol. which I have seen roosters do to woo them or show in chicken romance/love to say that's their girl. BUT not while on a nest unless they know she need the extra nummies...which i have been making sure she has food water. and feeding her some mealworms and wax worms (parents own bait shop) plus other bugs i find like crickets.
I am just worried about the ducklings more then the peeps....
