Just went out and they were all in the coop! But in the nestboxes.....should I let them sleep in there for now or block off the nest boxes? They are only 6 weeks old...Thanks
I'd say since they are going into the coop, let them stay in the next boxes for a few night then block them until they are 5 months or so.... less mess to deal with. I knew they'd coop up... smart little ladies.
Thanks Duke, I will give them until the weekend and then block off the nest boxes. That was some easy training! Got the brooder cleaned up and bought an incubator to hatch my own soon.. I like to visit them in the morning when it is nice and quiet out and see them actinglike chickens.
Me too, they get so excited when I open the coop door... fun to see them all bounce out of the coop ready to start a new day of scratching and clucking! I find the dust baths most entertaining.
Had them freeranging today and about 15 minutes ago they marched across the yard, through the run door, up the ramp and into the coop all by themselves. Was awesome....
P.s.everyone was not kidding about their love for slugs!
Added a grass door mat to the coop/run. Also added one inside, they both have 1/2" hardware cloth over the top so the chickens can only eat the tops of the grass and not tear it up and out. They seem to love it. I saw the general idea on BYC website and just kinda adapted it and ran with it.
