Hello all! I am the proud owner of 4 little ladies and they have a suite at the Ritz! A storage shed from Menards turned into a hen house complete with 2 added windows and vents! The ladies seem to love it thus far! I am wondering if anyone knows of a good automatic door system? One that opens at dawn and shuts at dusk? A room at the Ritz should have such an amenity I think!

What no wi-fi, no hot tube, room service ?? Just teasing. I have no experience with the auto doors but, a lot of people do. Some of those will be responding later today and can give you their opinions of the systems.

I would worry about stragglers who don't go to bed early enough and get locked out.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

What a great idea! Is it plastic? The only issue you might run into is sweating in the winter. You may need to line the insides of the coop with cardboard. Plastic doesn't breathe and with all the pooping and the breathing in cold air, the moisture is going to rise and freeze or remain wet and fall back down on the birds. Even with good ventilation, this can happen when using plastics. So just be aware. :-)

Enjoy your cute flock and welcome to ours!

Thank you all for the good advice. We will be sure to insulate for sweating in the winter! We plan on putting in a small heat lamp too, so hopefully that will help keep things dry! Appreciate the heads up!! :-)

Welcome to BYC! That is a very creative henhouse you've come up with. I wish I could help you with an automatic door system, but the only automatic door system I've ever used is me. :o) Good luck with your flock.
