Hi. I have a hen house that needs to be insulated on a couple walls facing west, southwest because we can get temps up to 115 in the summer. I don't want to use fiberglass and am considering rigid foam board. It would be easy for me to cut and install and would help with the heat. But I need to cover it so the hens don't peck at the foam board. At first I was just thinking of using OSB but have now become worried about creating a place for bug/pests to hide, as I've read so much about them getting into walls, etc. So, now I'm thinking about using a heavy canvas tarp and securing it in a way that will keep a barrier from the foam board, as well as, being removable for cleaning and treating walls for mites, etc., if necessary. I'm thinking that there would be no way for the hens to peck at the canvas and create any kind of hole for acessing the foam but would really appreciate the knowledge and insight that any of you may have. I like the idea of having it removable so I could clean or treat it. I have been using diatomatious earth on floor and walls and have not had any mites in the last 2 years so I'm planning on keeping up with it. Seems like something removable would be a solution instead of a permanent wall but want to be sure the girls cannot peck through it...? I could really use some help. What do you guys think?
