Hen in Laying position all day!

Whether you get fertile eggs for her to sit on or just let her sit on nothing for 3 weeks or so, I would advise putting her off the nest once or twice a day to enourage her to eat, drink, and poop. Many hens who turn broody don't take care of themselves. If you're not wanting her to hatch chicks, then you can try to break her from her broodiness. Do a search on "breaking a broody."

We also have one BO hen that acts the same way. She gets very broody and I have to sometimes take her out so that she gets some exercise and something to eat and drink. She also makes that noise which I call her "chicken growl" whenever you try to come near. We finally let her hatch out a few eggs a couple of months ago and she's not been as broody since.

Thanks everyone! No rooster for us... I'll just have to break her broodiness myself...that ice cube clutch sound promising..
