Hen in the Process of Autoamputation post Frostbite

It is great learning to learn so much in this online group! I would have never guessed this could even happen. Animals' resilience is such a blessing to all.
Agreed, honestly. I've only had my chickens for about two years now, and even with the research I did in advance, I get so lost. This group has been a life saver so far, and by far the friendliest I've been in.

Fair. I'll have to have my husband help remove it, if it's still attached? But the foot injury risks are actually why we plan to get her a prosthetic leg or even a wheelchair, if deemed necessary, to help try to lessen the risk.
A pair of sharp scissors should be enough to just snip since it looks like it's just skin holding. There may be some blood, so just keep her stump clean afterwards

@JacinLarkwell has made a good suggestion. I agree, it looks like it's barely hanging on. I'd remove it.

@JacinLarkwell do you have suggestions on how to wrap the stump?
Honestly, I don't. I didn't wrap any of mine, I just made sure they didn't get it muddy or poop covered. I think for One Leg and Knuckles, I sprayed hydrogen peroxide at least 1x a day, but I don't remember how long I did that or when I stopped. Probably until I was comfortable with them being unlikely to get an infection based on how they looked and were acting

Have an update!! She has lost the foot (to my snips that I needed to find), and she's been treated with peroxide. She's hopping along, not happy with me and definitely won't be later either when I give her a DE bath and a grooming (with a tooth brush). But she's moving and acting her normal self.

Thank you for the update. I'm glad you were able to remove that with no issues.

LOL She doesn't like Spa Day?!

No problem! The only real problem was that she just wouldn't let me see beyond her fluff, either for the snip or the peroxide spray.

Nah, she does like Spa Day. I usually use DE and add in a mix of herbs to help her feel better before brushing her with her toothbrush. It's just more she didn't want to see me... until I gave her treats for being such a brave girl. Which... means I gave her a few blueberries, because, like her late aunt Sweetie (Sweetheart) who passed last year due to old age and was the sweetest girl, she prefers blueberries to all other treats I've offered.
