My hen was injured by one of my clumsy roosters while mating a few days ago which caused a piece of flesh from her head to rip off. I've separated her and have been cleaning her wound with microcyn and putting neosporin on it at least twice daily.
She seemed to be doing fine until this morning I noticed her wound has turned green. It doesn't have any sort of smell and it's still moist..
Is it infected? Should I clean her wound with something else or add something else to it?
What should I do?

The green means the tissue is old and decaying. You need to pull as much of that off the wound as possible. Scrape it off if you need to, but don't let it keep remaining. Otherwise, keep up the wound care you've been doing.

If you ever need to treat an injury that has a loose flap of skin, do not cut that off. You can use it as a skin graft if it still is attached and has a blood supply. "Gluing it in place with a wound ointment after thorough cleaning can result in it "taking" in just a couple of days and it cuts healing time in half.

How did you get on with your chickens sore?
I ended up ditching the vetericyn for a 50/50 dilution of "Hibiclens" to clean her wound, then I used tweezers and q-tips soaked in the dilution to pull off the green, dead skin in and around her wound. Then I slathered the whole thing in neosporin. I did all this at least twice a day for a few days and it's pretty much completely healed now! I'm still a little worried about potential infection though, so I'm monitoring her to see if she exhibits any unusual behavior, though she seems normal for now...

Colloidal silver spray works better for infections than anything I have ever used!!! Saved my hen's life after she was mauled by an opossum. She had 6" of skin hanging off under her right wing. Tried to graft it but instead she picked on it & slowly ate it except for an inch! Then I applied organic castor oil when she began to scab & she was totally healed in 2 weeks. In medieval times they called castor oil the hand of Christ (palma Christi in Latin) because it heals everything it touches.
I can't believe how much pain a chicken can endure. They are truly remarkable birds.

Mine were mauled by a dog 3 days ago. I used castor oil on the worst one and she's finally eating and conscious again. Poor babies. So far so good. Even without proper antibiotics.
