Hen is acting strange

It really isn't a good thing to let the bird sit on a nest for weeks, if she is not going to hatch eggs. They are not eating or drinking properly. They are not getting the exercise they need. The proper and humane thing to do, is to set up a broody cage and snap the bird out of it, fast as possible. I know what you are talking about with the weird behaviour. One of my broodies will get all ruffled up when I pull her off the nest and set her on the floor, she'll just sit there and growl. Set up a broody cage. You can do a search and see that is what is done.

I don't have a wire cage to put her in but i do have a plastic dog kennel I could put her in.( it is pretty big) This just started yesterday, because she had laid an egg. I just do not know why the other hens are being so mean to her.

Does the dog kennel have a wire floor or a solid floor? The main thing is that you want air circulation to get to the bottom of the bird. So you are looking for something with a wire or slatted floor. My broody box is actually an old wire box trap I have around here. You could slap together something with wood and chicken wire. Just make a basic box 2.5-3' square. The other birds are acting like they are because they noticed the change in behaviour, and your broody is not defending herself like she normally would.

The dog kennel has a solid bottom. I keep going out to the coop and getting her out of the nest box. Right now she is taking a dirt bath with the other amerucana. I think I have a wire dog kennel, I will have to look for it.But right now I am hanging out in the chicken pen trying to keep her from going back to the nest box! I hope she doesn't have to really lay an egg, I would feel so bad! Thank you for all your help!
