I have a 4 yr. old hen that consistently lays and introduced 5 pullets (I hope) about 3 weeks ago. The pullets are about 12 weeks old now. The older hen is a Buff Orp and has always been vocal but now I believe she may be crowing like a rooster. Is this possible???

Yes it's possible. In some circumstances not only will they crow but also drop food for the rest of the flock and give the roosters I've found food call along with all the body language.
It's quite possible that the introduction of the pullets has caused this behavior in your senior hen.
Looks like your senior hen is going to be the boss.;)

A crowing hen, though rare, is typically found in a flock that doesn't have a rooster. So Yes, it's absolutely possible, and a blessing to your young (hopefully) girls as she's not only claiming leadership, but she's also promising to "look out for" the flock. Since she's already past her egg-laying prime, you can probably expect her to slack on laying even more as she takes on this new responsibility.
