I have a flock of pullets with one rooster, they are 4 months old yesterday. The rooster started crowing about 3 weeks ago and use to crow alot through out the day. But I have noticed that when he crows now one particular hen will attack him... Pecking and flapping her wings at him. Then she goes off on her merry way until he crows again, then she runs up and starts hen pecking him... I have never seen this before or heard of such a thing, anyone else seen this behavior? He has gotten so he hardly crows except at night and early morning...

She does not want to hear from him until his voice changes.

Poor rooster......so that's where the term 'hen pecked' comes from.

Your hen may accept him better when he leaves adolescence.....otherwise a lifetime of attacks.

I have a black australorp hen who did that to my young rooster, she would give him hell!! I thought I would never get any fertile eggs from her.

6 months on and he is the boos and gets over all the hens including her!

He was just a bit young for her in the begining.

Good for her! I don't like to be around young males who crow all the time!

Now that`s funny........., but true. And as crazy chook said, he just needs to grow up. Maturity will take over and he will take his place as "leader of the pack", "cock of the walk","the grand cahoonah", etc, etc..........Pop
