Hen is either a ticking bomb or what? Broody? [HATCHING Pg. 2]

Oh, and speaking of darkness.

I just checked on her and guess what?

Still sitting on the clutch, with the rest roosting.

Thanks for the pencil advice.

Things would be even more insane than they are now. She started taking all other newly laid eggs and adding them to her clutch.

At first I tried to race out there early each morning to collect them before she "stole" them, but most of the time I was not fast enough.

Now I go out there each afternoon with a pot lid as a shield...Chicken Gladiator style, and collect them.

That is a BEAUTIFUL picture!! Thank you so much for sharing it. I love how she's gathered such a large clutch! Isn't it AMAZING how they can move eggs around? I actually saw my Buffy move one egg from the adjacent nest box into her own. Wow. All without hands and opposable thumbs!

Thanks! My wife made me spend a "huge" amount on our Kodak several years ago, and now I do not regret it.

What is also amazing is the fact that 2 other hens will jump on her clutch when she gets off of it to feed/water et cetera.

For a day or so I thought that a 2nd or even a 3rd one was going to go broody.

what i enjoy most about broody hens is how the other hens will interact with them.

Back in my first chicken days my RIR went broody, and she'd peck and holler if you got too close but it was all show. She was a sweetheart.
But the other hens all coveted her spot. They would climb in on top of her to lay their egg, and then saunter off.
Somedays the look she'd give... "DO YOU MIND?!@?!?"
