Hen is growing spurs!!!

I'm pretty sure my Australorp chick is a hen, but the other day I noticed that the little scab on the side of her leg seems to be growing. I know hens will have a hard, round scab like thing on the side of her leg, but it doesn't get bigger. What is that about?

Some hens will grow spurs. My silkie hen has spurs about an inch long, and she is definitely female, she's has a couple of batches of chicks.

Its a bit uncommon, but it happens.

Yep, I have a Silkie hen with spurs about 2cms long and she is also definitely a hen, lays eggs and is currently in the run with her two babies

She looks just like my australorp hen. Very pretty! I don't know about the spurs but she is defintely a girl.

She's defintely a pullet. Hens sometimes develop spurs, some rather long.
