Hello, my two years old copper Marans, has what I suspect is respiratory or sinus infection. She doesn’t really eat much, but she drinks.

I had two others who were sick and got better, and another who just caught it today. They all have/had puffy eyes, and acted tired and sluggish, they breathed heavily, they all went out to the garden when I opened the door, except for her. This one is the only one who seems really bad. Her crop is empty, she’s a bit skinny, and her mouth smells a bit strange.

I tried giving her honey, veggies and fish, but she doesn’t get better. She also has diarrhea, while the others didn’t really. This is her poop.

I can’t buy her antibiotics due to country emergency. The vet visit would cost around 120€. I could try and see what I have at home.

This is the puffy eyes:

Edit: I have two capsules of amoxicillin 500mg and and three tablets of synulox 250 mg.

You are living in a state of emergency so any health crisis in your flock will have to depend on whatever you have on hand, even though you may not have enough meds to complete a full round of treatment.

Respiratory infections can sometimes devolve into a secondary bacterial infection. This hen probably has such an infection. I would use the two meds you have on hand. Begin by dividing the doses into five doses of 250mg. This will allow for five days of treatment which might be enough to chase the infection without triggering resistance.

Ideally, the hen should receive 250mg of amoxicillin two times a day for ten days. If you can call friends and family and try to find more amoxicillin, it would be much better for the hen.

Alright, Ill ask people for amoxicillin, that seems like a rather large dose for a bird, but I will not argue this, because my knowledge on antibiotics is zero.
