I have a hen who is definitely top of the pecking order, she usually pecks the other hens to show she in charge and the hens don't get too close to her, she is very active all day and will flap her wings and wriggle away if you try to pick her up. today, however, when I went 2 the run I found her standing isolated from the hens and the roo,, standing up but with her eyes closed. when I went to check on her she didn't shuffle away but just stood blinking at me .so I picked her up,but she just sat on my arms falling asleep0 and making noises.i don't know how to explain the noises but shes never made them before and they sound worrying like shes in pain, its not the same noise as she makes when laying an egg tho.so shes just standing there falling asleep and making distressing noises at the moment and I really don't know what to do also she has some white bits near her vent if this helps but she sometimes has poo stains there so I don't know if its relevant and her corp just feels a little watery??idk I'm not an expert in corps.so any help with this lethargic, unwell hen???????????/

Could you post a video of the sounds she’s making?

Most post on YouTube, Instagram, or Vimeo and share the link here because posting a video directly here seems to be an issue.

Could you also post some pictures of the white bits you were referring too? Also did they look a little like rice?

sry there isn't a way to link a video but the sounds are found in quick distressed croaks also the white stuff just stains, definitely not worms and don't look like rice.

Poor bean! I’m currently tending to a sick hen myself and it’s the worst.

First of all, you should separate her from the flock. I have my girl inside right now in the large bin I use as a chick brooder.
You said her crop is watery - does it feel like a swollen water balloon? If so, it’s likely sour crop. Just search on this forum for sour crop and you’ll find ways to treat it (it‘s basically a yeast infection in the crop so you need to withhold any feed that will only make the problem worse).

Is she pooping normally, or is material getting passed? If it seems nothing or not much is coming out, there could be an obstruction (this might also cause sour crop). When I suspect an obstruction, I give my chickens olive oil (eyedropper directly into the mouth). Usually I give 2 mL once or twice a day.

Any chance she is having laying issues? Soft or even shell-les eggs? Could be an egg is stuck in her. My girl who is sick now I suspect of possibly having egg peritonitis (egg broke inside of her). Does her abdomen feel swollen? If an egg is stuck, you can try soaking her in warm water for about 15-20 minutes to loosen things up. Add epsom salt if you have it.

What you can do, once she’s separated from the flock and comfortable, is check all her symptoms (you mentioned lethargy but that can apply to so many things) and see if she has any of the common symptoms for the common ailments and go from there.

I really hope you find out what’s wrong and can help your girl :love .

Being honest there isn’t all much the community here can do if it’s a serious illness and we can give educated guesses about what we think it could be and how to treat it but it’s no guarantee that we’re right. A veterinarian can do much more to diagnose and treat than we can.

If you have any vitamins, particularly B vitamins it ban boost her immune system and might help her fight what’s going on.
Hopefully she gets better soon, I’m sorry she’s so sick.😔

thank you for your advice but i really don't think shes eggs bound because she has been laying , also my roo is really attached to her hed cry all night if we took her and its just not really possible for us to provide another space for her.her eggs are normal and her poo seems fine too also I rly hope your hen gets better soon
