Just went out to the coop and little Red is making a terrible wailing - it sounds like something is caught in her throat, every once in a few wails she tries to push it out but has become obviously hoarse and weak...suggestions? Of course tonight is like one of the coldest of the winter....

I would bring her inside for the night, open up her beak and see if you can see anything obvious stuck down in her throat, be careful if you find something and want to fish it out, the throat is delicate.

it might also be what they call gapeworm...if this continues can you get the bird to a vet?

Watch her really carefully; what you're describing sounds like "raling" which is what our mama hen did a couple of days before she died from ILT. At the time, we didn't know what it was; it went away after a day or so, and so we decided it was nothing! She had no other symptoms that we saw. Definitely bring her in and watch for symptoms; you might want to think about starting her on an antibiotic. From what I read, "raling" can be caused by a lot of respiratory problems.
