Hey everyone-I am new here and somewhat new to raising chickens. I saw something I have never seen before today, I brought the girls some apple cores and they were doing their usual "pecking order" thing which I have seen before. But out of nowhere another hen jumped ON TOP of the other, kinda shook around and waited for the other to stop fighting. Is this normal "pecking order" behavior or should I be watching them more closely to make sure she isn't going to start hurting the other. Thank you all, I am kinda weirded out. And is it normal for the hen lowest in the order to hide when the food is brought out?

One of my hens has done that before. It's basically to establish authority over another hen and say "I'm the boss!". Pretty normal. Hens lowest in the pecking order will probably hide to avoid being attacked and pecked by higher ranking hens.
