Hen just sits in the nesting box

Putting them on the roost works for you people?! My buff just jumps off and hunkers down a random corner because I have the nest boxes closed off during the night 😭

She’s not even sitting on eggs. Just sitting.
You need to put the broody on the roost after dark. Make a new temporary nestbox for the other hens to lay their eggs. Take the broody out of a nestbox or corner if she starts to sit on another spot.

Oh I do put her on after dark. She sits, then when I get inside and check my cam, she’s jumping down to go sit in the corner! 😭

There are two other boxes, and I definitely go out and remove her like once an hour haha. She’s very very determined to … not sit on anything at all.

If this doesn’t work you have two more options: put the broody in a wire cage/dog crate or let her sit on fertilised eggs for 3 weeks 🐣🐣🐣🐄🐄🐄.

Or let her sit on nothing until she gives up. But that could take a lot longer than three weeks.

I've had that happen too, that a broody hen will jump off the roost in the dark and go sit somewhere. Some of them are very determined!

Mine was doing the same thing. We just kept forcing her to come out to eat and drink. She’s getting better, but I don’t think she has laid an egg in weeks. She was also sleeping in the nesting box.

Broodies normally stay in the nest overnight and they don't lay during or for a few weeks afterwards, so that's all normal.
