hello everyone,

I’m looking for assistance with diagnosing my friends hen. She told me her hen has been walking funny, keeping her tail down, and sleeping on the floor of the coop at night. I asked her to look at poop and she said it all looks good, her comb and eyes look great and there’s no nasal discharge. My initial thought was eggbound, but it’s been so long I doubt it’s that. They do have a rooster but he’s 6 years old and can’t mount the girls anymore. Now I’m thinking maybe she’s getting picked on/is low on the pecking order? Any advice or ideas?

Thanks so much.

How old is the Hen and how long has it been ill?...Many causes for Birds to act that way
If I remember correctly she’s going on three. I don’t know the exact length of time, but roughly a month or so. They said she eats great and drinks. She actually is a little bit chunky so I’m thinking that’s why she looks so funny when she walks/runs. And then like I was already saying they added a new hen and she’s kinda mean so maybe the new hen is bullying and that’s why she doesn’t want to roost and is keeping the tail down.

Could be fatty liver syndrome ?..What breed?..Tumors?..She is older now at 3...Doesn't sound like being pecked on...Medically something is wrong..Does it still lay eggs?
She’s a jersey giant, no tumors that they or I’m aware of. She does still lay, but none of their hens have laid in well over two months
