I have a chicken that laid her first egg Yesterday. We collected the egg in the morning and she looked like she was doing great. However, later in the afternoon we saw that it looked like she had a severely prolapsed vent. But, from the time we first noticed it and the time we were able to catch her to take a closer look, the tissue had retracted about 90% back in. We brought her in and separated her from the other chickens overnight and also washed her vent with warm water and spread some Preparation H on it. Today, she seemed to be fine and also laid another egg.

Is this normal after a hen has laid her first egg? She is only the 3rd chicken we’ve had lay an egg and the other two did not have the same issue.

Does anyone have any insight?
