1 of my good laying hens laid an egg with no shell outside of the nesting box. Now I've noticed her rear has a bald spot. The area is pink, not red and doesn't appear to be swollen, but I can't catch her to feel it. I did notice last week that one of the other hens (all from the same flock) was pecking at her butt a few times but it didn't seem to be habitual. Other than that, she looks and acts healthy. She's eating and drinking as usual and not lethargic.
Is it just coincidence that the soft egg and bald butt appeared a few days apart? I have been keeping an eye out for the next egg but have not seen one as of yet. Any suggestions or concrete advice? Not sure how concerned I should be.
