Today I found an object about 3 inches long that I thought was a compressed eggshell mass. I pulled it apart and it looked just like a piece of chicken that had been cooked. It shredded and in fact one bit looked like chicken skin.
I have been having egglaying issues for months. Paper thin shells and few eggs. I have changed feed, they have oyster shell and free range over about 1/2 acre (in the woods) I have added protein on and off and ground up my own calcium supplements which I provide maybe once a week.
I am not relying on their eggs and not complaining about how many eggs I do or don't get. I am only concerned that they are alright. I do probably feed too many snacks (bananas, peanuts, rice etc, however, I have always done that.
Any ideas on what I found in the coop and why these egglaying issues persist?
thank you
