Hen layed, heard hard hit, egg cracked, wanted to hatch hers

She did but when she did It dropped hard, and I heard the famous crack...sure enough a small pushed in crack smaller than a small pea (veggie)...no good huh???

She lays Mauve eggs and I was curious to see what she would bring me. Is there any way to make it good? Sealing It???I have been waiting to collect her eggs...

I've read that some people seal cracked eggs with candle wax (as long as the membrane is completely intact. One lady said an egg that was broken in shipment had cracks all over it and she had to almost completely cover it in wax...but the chick lived! She had to help it out of the shell because it was so covered in wax that it couldn't zip...LOL.

If this is one of her first eggs, it probably will not be fertile anyhow.

you can drip candle wax on the pip to try to seal it..

she should lay more eggs, just wait for the next one..

no not her first eggs...but I made the mistake to put my eggs in the refrig. until my bator was ready and I got my eggs from Ma that she wanted hatched....my refrig was too cold and I lost eggs, they froze...so now I have to start getting hers all over again....I wanted to at least have 3 by tomm...thats when I was starting the hatch.

but she cracked it...why do hens move all the shavings out of there nest? I have them nicely filled and they push it all out leaving a bare nest box. Shame on her its her fault. Guess its worth a try to wax it, nothing to lose. already dont have that egg if its cracked might as well wax it and see.

I agree...try the wax and at least you have some chance.

As for the nest boxes...I put a scrap of carpet in the bottom of my nest boxes, and put shavings on top. Even when they move the shavings, the carpet is soft and the eggs don't crack

I want some squishy rubber bath mats or welcome mats to put in my nest boxes. For the same reason. I'm tired of broken eggs! Rubber mats, so I can take them out and hose them off, when they get icky.

Can't you postpone starting the eggs for a couple more days, to get more of her eggs? They are yours, you can start them when you want!

yes Im sure I can....but Ma has had her eggs now 10 days!!!! and thats why I was starting it friday...ONLY REASON.

Truthfully I dont know what she is!!!! Ive been told splash orp...splash maran...???? she is gorgeous, and lays a mauve egg....
