I've never seen this before, and it has never happened to me in my life. It's truly a rare thing. So one of my ladies laid 2 eggs with 2 shells 2 days in a row. The first day I thought okay it’s got a second shell no big deal, the 2nd day the egg inside is one color and the outside shell is another. I know that people say it’s impossible for a hen to lay 2 different colored eggs or their color to change but I’m thinking that may not be the case. Here is the proof.
My guess is that your Orpington mix is actually something else. Provide a picture of the hen you saw laying a blue/green egg and hopefully someone can determine what the actual mix is.I came to ask if hens could lay different colors, like one day a brown egg, the next day she lays a blue egg. I have two hens that are cross bred. One is cross between Splash and Lavender Orphingtons. The other is cross between Barred Plymouth Rock and Splash Orphington. The BPR lays a light brown egg, the other one, I thought was laying brown also, but I witnessed her laying yesterday and that egg was a blueish green. I had an EE go broody and I allowed her to sit on 5 eggs. Only 2 hatched. There were no EE eggs present.
