One of my hens has been laying in the run at 8 pm. I have noticed she won’t lay one day, then by the following evening is acting sluggish. Each time she lays an egg in the run around 8 pm. The next morning when I go out there is a soft shelled egg in the coop that I’m assuming was laid by her. What Would cause her to do this?

Soft shell eggs are hard to move down the pike, thus the odd behavior.
Calcium is needed for both making good strong shells and aiding the contractions that move the egg thru the system.

How old is bird?
What all and how exactly are you feeding?

She is around 16 months. Has been laying fine up until a couple weeks ago. I feed my backyard flock pellet layer feed. i have grit and oyster shells available.

Are you in the northern or southern hemisphere?
If southern, she may be ramping down production and getting ready to molt?

Are they eating the OS?
She might need a special private breakfast with extra calcium.
