My 1st batch of hens 2 years ago had alot of issues. 1 died of prolapse, another I suspected peritonitis or something else. I am not sure. Her adbomin was filled with watery liquid egg yolk coloring, and her internal organs were displaced up in her chest cavity.

Anyhow I have this hen who keeps repeating a similar egg laying issue and was wondering if anyone had a guess what exactly the issue is. She seems healthy, but once or twice a month she suddenly seems "lost in thought"/occupied doesn't move or speak much. She either ejects what I assume are the egg white and possibly membrane. Each time varies.
This time it is egg membrane with a tint of pinkish blood. Yesterday it began with clear liquid throughout the day, today the membrane.

She always seems to recover within a day or 2. Just curious what the deal is with her. She does receive oyster shell as well.

Thanks in advance for any guesses

Does anyone have a clue? She is back to normal for now. I thought perhaps other folks have encountered this issue????

While I'm not entirely sure of the cause, I have a faverolle with a similar issue. Once every couple months I'll find an "egg" that essentially has no shell. It reminds me of a reptile egg, soft and leathery. It doesn't happen often, and Scrooge is happy as can be otherwise.

The brand varies, but Dumor laying crumbles is usually what they get. Yes they free range during day.
The so called egg she is laying isn't intact, its just "matter" that passes out of her. Been on and off with her for about a year.

Hmm I have been doing some looking into this and can't seem to find much about it. She gets enough oyster shell and grits? Have you tried backstrap molasses or raw apple cider vinegar? And have you made sure there isn`t something she is getting into thats toxic? This is intrigued with this issue

I dont think so, the other girl is perfectly fine with no issues. I just assumed I got a bad batch of birds. I have tried oyster shell seperate, mixed w/feed. I crush up egg shells and give back as well. they are free ranged so to speak but are limited to my backyard. Thank you for your response.

I would reccommend adding CalciBoost to her water 5 days per week. It's easy to mix, and won't hurt your other hens at all.

Oyster shell and grit didn't help our hen,. but this did, for a long while. Ultimately, the CalciBoost wasn't enough for her, and we needed to put her down humanely though, because she was having times when she wasn't feeling well, and this was happening too often.
