that were chicks in March 2024 so some are just starting to lay. We found a raw chicken like fibrous mass in one of the lying boxes. A week late we found a similar raw chicken nugget looking mass in the same box. What do you suppose these are and what can we do to treat the condition? We haven't identified which hen it is

That looks like lash egg material, a product of infection from salpingitis or inflammation of the oviduct. If you can cut those in half, please post more pictures. Is any one pullet looking poorly, lethargic, or have a lowered tail?

Is the stuff in the second picture squishy? You describe is as being like raw chicken. I thought lash material was firm or chalky, but have never seen or handled it myself.

None of ithe specimen was squishy. It was firm and fibrous. I cut the chicken nugget in half. It was firm and chicken like. There was no odo. All the chickens look and act healthy. Unfortunately we discarded the specimens because they were gross, so no more pictures

Definitely looks like lash material but in order to confirm it for sure we'd need to see the inside, so if you get anything similar in the future make sure to cut it open and get a photo of the inside. In order to try treating it you'd need to ID which bird it came from as it would require antibiotics.

Thank you for the articles. I have two chickens that are 2 and a half years old. It could be one of them. They have only been laying a regular egg sporadically for the past year.
