Just got new hens today about 1 year old - had them in the horse stall opened the door and everyone went to the corner except on - she casually just walked out of the stall and just kept on walking - couldn't find her anywhere. Very weird she didn't act nervous at all.. I also have my older ones outside free ranging. Why didn't see stay around with the others. Sad part is couldn't find where she went and she is outside tonight.

How long were they cooped up before you turned them loose. Am I understanding correctly that day? If that is the case the simple explanation is that it was not home and she went to find it.

Yes just that day :( They are in the coop now how long should I wait before I free range them?

What I would also do is not let them out all day the first day or two. I would let them out an hour or so before it is time to roost. That way you know they are headed home.

She showed up Sunday night but wouldn't let us catch her - the next day our little 6 year old neighbor had caught her and put her back in the coop :)
